Beastly Movie Review

The movie Beastly is a modern take of the classic story Beauty and the Beast.  Starring I Am Number Four’s Alex Pettyfer, High School Musical’s Vanessa Hudgens, How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris and Mary-Kate Olsen, this is a cute spin of the story that we all know and love.

Kyle (Pettyfer) is the popular, good looking and arrogant guy at school who only thinks of himself and puts others down.  When he is rude to another student for being ugly, she casts a spell on him, making him ugly, bald and scarred.  She tells him he has one year to make someone fall in love with him or he’ll be stuck with this appearance for life.  This is where Lindy (Hudgens) comes into the picture.  They had met briefly at school but he soon becomes obsessed with her.  After an incident occurs, Lindy is forced to live with Kyle, although she has no idea that it is him.  They become great friends but will Lindy fall in love with him before it’s too late?

Although the movie is quite cheesy, it was still enjoyable to watch.  It sends out the message that appearance should not be the most important thing and it’s personality that counts, that we should accept people for who they are and not judge people just by looking at them.

If you enjoyed movies like A Cinderella Story and Penelope, then you won’t want to miss this one.

I give this movie 3 out of 5 stars
