Of Sheen and Trump

The love of spectacle and the acceptance of negative publicity as better than no publicity is probably one of the signs on the end times if you happen to believe in such things. For those people who seem to still be shocked at the shenanigans that have made both these men get all that media attention in last few months (and there are a lot of you), I have to say that you are a bunch of gullible fools.

There is a disturbing trend in media these days where people try to get attention from the watching public by any means necessary. So what do Charlie Sheen and Donald Trump have in common and what have we, as a society, learned about ourselves from watching these two jackasses bray for pay? It the perversity of society that people love to watch celebrities degrade themselves in such a way to get attention.

Because people watch these clowns, the clowns make money. And why do people watch? Because it is shocking. But for how long will it be shocking? Eventually there will come a time when we will all be desensitized to the current swath of ridiculousness perpetrated by people to get attention and then people will do more and more vile things to get the attention they want to make the money they don't need.

The only way to fight this negativity in society is to be an iconoclast. Understand what these people are doing and know that what they do is an insult to the collective intelligence of society. Don't pay them any attention and when you do, make sure you sneer. Certainly don't buy tickets to their stand up shows and please don't stay in their over priced hotels.

It is so much harder to get attention from people by doing something good and positive. Real artists deserve fame because they contribute to the soul of society. Fame then translates into wealth which is richly deserved. But people have realized that the same attention can be had by making fools of themselves and by bringing other people down.

What they don’t realize is these tactics are distasteful in the best of times and dangerous in the worst. What Sheen did was just absurd. He was never funny before and so he used his engorged ego to drum up some attention for himself. He then converted this temporary attention into quick dollars with a sudden spur of comedy shows.

But Donald trump's stunts were far more dangerous as he looked to undermine the authority of the head of a country by questioning his very birth, and for what? To get a little bit of extra dough! The only way to stop fools like this from making waves is to ignore them and not give into the temptation to watch them crash and burn. They make money when you give them attention. Please don't encourage this behavior anymore. You too can help preserve the sanity of all mankind. All you have to do is NOT pay attention!
