Abbott's Attack on ABC - Yet another distraction

It appears that Abbott government has decided that the ABC is the enemy or at least an enemy sympathiser. Prime Minister Abbott speaking Sydney shock jock and government mouthpiece Ray Hadley of 2GB has told his Sydney audience it, “dismays Australians when the national broadcaster appears to take everybody's side but our own’’.

He statements are another sign that the Prime Minister is struggling with the transition from opposition leader to leader of the nation. Seemingly stuck in opposition mode the attack on the national broadcaster this morning while not surprising is the latest in ‘look over there’ tactics

Australian Politics US Style

To say it’s been a big week in politics is an understatement. The deposing of Julia Gillard by her own party and the reinstating of former leader Kevin Rudd as Prime Minister was high drama. A drama that highlights how brutal politics can be.

Much has and will be written about the events of 27 June by pundits more qualified that yours truly. But now with the 43rd Parliament of Australia now officially closed the unofficial election campaign can begin in earnest. We can expect all sorts of trials and tribulations over the coming weeks but an early trend that is emerging is the excruciating charge toward American style electioneering.

Asylum Seeker Debate Hits A New Low

The asylum seeker debate has reached a new low level with Shadow Immigration Minister Scott Morrison calling for a suspention of bridging visas for all asylum seekers, further suggesting that households where those seeking refuge are released into the community should be notified by authorities.

His suggestion comes after a 21-year-old Sri Lankan asylum seeker asylum seeker, charged with indecently assaulting a student at Macquarie University last week.
