Facebook Bullying

Facebook bullying has been around since the site began, but recently it has become more often and more nasty than ever. A lot of us have experienced bullying at some point in our lives but to have it plastered over a social networking site for anyone to see, is even more cruel and hurtful. Rumours are known to spread like wildfire and the internet fuels it even further and faster, leaving people embarrassed and with their feelings hurt, in some cases even ending in suicide. It needs to stop.
The most recent form of Facebook bullying is groups being made about certain suburbs. People write a private message to the group creator, who then posts the gossip as their status for everyone to see, laugh about and comment on. They are known to use real and full names to embarrass people with anything from sexual acts to who’s cheating on who and all sorts of other personal things. But who is to say that any of it is true anyway?
People have a tendency to simply believe what they hear without asking any questions. Apparently everything we hear is supposed to be true, although deep down we know this is not the case. We judge too easily and don’t leave any room for doubt. Just because something is written in front of your eyes, does not make it a fact.
The question is, why do these people find it enjoyable to make others lives miserable? Do they get satisfaction from hurting people and making them feel humiliated about themselves? Would they like the same thing to be done to them? And most importantly, are these Facebook groups worth someone taking their own life?
I’m going to attempt to answer these questions with my thoughts on the situation. I know young people can be nasty and not always get along (I was also in high school once) but I think they like the experience of being in control of something and having followers to egg them on. Well, there are much better ways to get attention than ruining others social lives. Maybe try being nice and if you don’t like someone, then ignore them. It’s as simple as that. Leave them alone, end of story. The only people who get satisfaction from doing things like this are attention seekers who don’t feel good about themselves, so they try to bring others down with them. I can guarantee that they would not appreciate having this done to them, so my advice is to put yourself in their shoes before you start typing horrible things about people. And I can one hundred and fifty percent say that this ridiculous and mean bullying is not worth having the loss of a life on your hands.
